A Behind the Scenes and practically underground Tour of Disney World By a previous Disney Cast Member

Ok, Ok, so you've been to Disney World about 87 times.

But how would you like an exclusive, hidden tour to see Walt Disney World as few ever will? As a old Disney World Cast Member I have volunteered to be your tour guide straight through the behind-the-scenes world of what makes Disney World so magical.

The Topiary

You'll have fun learning about a variety of backstage locations. We'll also take a peek under the Magic Kingdom Park and see Cast Member costuming, wardrobe, the so-called tunnel system, Disney's nursery and tree farm, waste treatment facilities and other aid areas.

A Behind the Scenes and practically underground Tour of Disney World By a previous Disney Cast Member

Let's start at the end, with sludge. Sludge from the water treatment installation is everybody's enterprise dried out and then used on the grounds for fertilizer. Reclaimed tinkle water is used for watering grass and plants. The water valves are labeled "Reclaimed Water - Do No Drink" Thanks for the heads up, Mickey!

Now we'll visit the plant nursery. Remember all those cool and cute topiary designs nearby the park? Well, this is where Disney Cast Members grow and shape the topiary critters. All this coolness takes time; about seven to eight years to grow a singular topiary character. One of my personal favorites is a smiling Mickey Mouse keeping a Disney Vacation Club [http://www.edisneytimeshare.com] sign near the entry to the Wilderness Lodge Hotel.

Then there is the parade storehouse area behind Splash Mountain. The back of Splash Mountain has many doors labeled, for example, "Access to Scene 31". Here you'll see Mickey Mania, Spectromagic, and the galvanic Water Parade paraphernalia. You can walk nearby and look at the parade pieces all you want. But no photos please. The Spectromagic floats are made of mesh, so the driver can see out, and are covered with small Christmas-type lights controlled by computers. There is also a small fan to cool down the driver. If you or the kids have always wanted to look inside the Sea Witch float from The tiny Mermaid, this is your big chance.

When I was a Disney cast member I strolled the tunnels on my breaks and dined in the hidden cafeterias. Very romantic. Actually, the tunnels are fake. Since the water table is very high in Florida it would be precious to keep real tunnels dry. Disney thus built a neat theory of utility corridors at ground level and then covered them with dirt. This made a new ground level one floor higher. The Magic Kingdom was built on top of this. Therefore, Main street Usa is honestly on the second floor.

The "Utilidors" make a circle nearby the park connecting all of the Lands and rides. There is also a utility corridor under Main street Usa connecting the entry to Cinderella's Castle. All of the Magic Kingdom utilities are nestled within the Utilidors. There is water, electricity, fiber optic cable, and the ultra-cool Vacuum Trash System.

The Disney World Vacuum Trash theory has come to be a model for some other very large buildings, and even parts of cities and municipalities. The theory uses pipes about two feet in diameter to suck all the trash to a central variety point.

Another unusual gismo in the Utilidors supplies the discrete odors to distinct parts of the park. There is one under the bakery that releases chocolate cookie smell into Main Street. Mickey wanted to use real cookie smell, as I recall. But, alas, there was no way to produce non-stop chocolate chip morsels. So, these odor producer machines are used for cookies and that just-right smell in many other places; smoke, orange groves, and so forth

The Utilidor also has discrete Cast Member services like a reputation Union, a 2-Hour Film Developer, cafeterias, and lockers. Costuming and wardrobe is also located down here. When I worked there I was always amused to see my beloved characters wandering nearby half dressed or carrying their heads. The walls of the Utilidors are color coded. There are also many maps and directional signs to help lost Cast Members (like me).

So when you visit Disney World for your 88th trip, keep an eye peeled for a sudden and magical character appearance. Mickey or Minnie may just pop out of a hidden door foremost from the Utilidor below. And you'll know their secret!

Yep, I'm finally back to making Let's Play videos again after a hiatus! This time, it's "Putt-Putt Saves the Zoo," the first Putt-Putt game made in the new animation style. Watch as Putt-Putt attempts to save six "baby" animals, listens to three topiary creatures sing in unusual voices, vomits at a chuck-wagon, hears a corny moose-related joke told by two toucans, explores a Lion King-esque grassland, does an endless-loop dance cycle with some penguins, and more! Paper Art of the 3D Kind - easy Steps to Creating Some easy Projects

Paper art is a lot of fun. It looks so good when you have ended a neat minuscule scheme and people think you are so clever - minuscule do they know that it can be a very uncomplicated and cost sufficient matter to make 3-d paper craft and other off the page projects.

Often a completed scheme only needs a someone to take a basic shape and make lots of them from scrap paper. You may like to make a special paper art item to decorate your home or to serve as a ornament for a special event.

The Topiary

For example, I made a topiary tree with circle shapes. Here's what I did:

  • Step 1. First I decided on a color palette for my tree. I had a lot of blue and green scraps of card stock and designer paper in a briefcase as I can never make myself throw paper scraps away, and surprise surprise - those color hues also went nicely with my home decor. You could of procedure pick any other color composition that remarkable your decor or party theme. (I have always opinion what pretty wedding table decorations these trees could make if they were done in pink (or other wedding color) and silver with a bit of lace or netting used as the first layer of the leaf motif, for example. You could even use a dissimilar shape for the leaf motif such as a star or hearts).
  • Step 2: I took a Styrofoam ball and a narrow wooden dowel and made the basic frame for the tree. The ball would form the leafy part of the tree and the dowel would form the trunk. I wrapped the wooden doweling in some green paper to make it look more finished. Just lay the doweling down on a piece of paper the same distance and roll it up, then bind the edge down.
  • Step 3. I pushed the dowel into an commonplace flower pot filled with small rocks and covered the pot with paper and punched circle shapes. I made sure the dowel was right and more or less in the middle of my flower pot.
  • Step 4: Then I punched out many circles of paper to make the leaf motifs for the tree.
  • Step 5: To make my leaf motifs, I used two sizes of punched circles with the larger circle as the first layer, then the smaller circle settled on top, and I punched a smaller flower shape to go on top of that. I ran a pearl-headed right pin straight through the three stacked shapes and pushed it right into the Styrofoam ball. I did this over and over until I had covered the entire ball with my overlapping leaves. I wanted to make sure none of the Styrofoam was showing. If you wanted to paint the ball first this may not be such a concern for you.
  • Step 6: I did leave a small gap of Styrofoam uncovered so I could push the dowel into the ball once it was prettily covered in colored paper shapes and pearl-headed pins.

Now don't you think the paper tree could be ended off beautifully with some paper butterflies? I made two paper butterflies and wrapped them around the stem of my tree with florist's wire, but you could make some to sit on the ball of the tree as well if you liked.

Here's what I did, step by step:

  • Step 1: I used two heart punched paper shapes to make the wings for my butterflies
  • Step 2: I cut out a cigar shaped body (cut two cigar shapes and sandwich the florist's wire and the wings in the middle of them with some adhesive).
  • Step 3: I decorated both sides of the wings with smaller punched hearts and added some details such as eyes and wing veins with a silver gel pen.

You may like to make an accordion fold butterfly instead. You can find the instructions for making one at PaperCraftCentral.com and also see pictures of the topiary tree and heart punch butterflies there. Don't worry - the accordion fold butterfly is also simple! The basic shapes used to create it are a square and a circle.

I hope I have inspired you to make some paper art projects with these two uncomplicated but sufficient ideas. Happy paper art crafting!

The Shining (Part 3)

The Shining (Part 3) Video Clips. Duration : 1.97 Mins.

More Top Ten Lists at: my-top-ten-list.blogspot.com Stanley Kubrick's The Shining is less an adaptation of Stephen King's bestselling horror novel than a complete reimagining of it from the inside out. In King's book, the Overlook Hotel is a haunted place that takes possession of its off-season caretaker and provokes him to murderous rage against his wife and young son. Kubrick's movie is an existential Road Runner cartoon (his steadicam scurrying through the hotel's labyrinthine hallways), in which the cavernously empty spaces inside the Overlook mirror the emptiness in the soul of the blocked writer, who's settled in for a long winter's hibernation. As many have pointed out, King's protagonist goes mad, but Kubrick's Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) is Looney Tunes from the moment we meet him--all arching eyebrows and mischievous grin. (Both Nicholson and Shelley Duvall reach new levels of hysteria in their performances, driven to extremes by the director's fanatical demands for take after take after take.) The Shining is terrifying--but not in the way fans of the novel might expect. When it was redone as a TV miniseries (reportedly because of King's dissatisfaction with the Kubrick film), the famous topiary-animal attack (which was deemed impossible to film in 1980) was there--but the deeper horror was lost. Kubrick's The Shining gets under your skin and chills your bones; it stays with you, inhabits you, haunts you. And there's no place to hide... --Jim Emerson

Ideas For Wedding Reception Table Arrangements You Want To Know

The trick with development floral arrangements for your reception and other areas is that you need to have whether some advice or some expert help. seeing in bridal magazines and in floral magazines is all well and good, but those are pictures of no-budget arrangements. You, on the other hand, can't necessarily spend your entire budget on the flowers.

On the tables

The Topiary

At your reception is where the majority of the flowers will go. Each of the tables, as well as the head table, will need a range of arrangements to add color and style. And while there absolutely aren't any rules for what arrangements you can have, you will want to keep a few things in mind.

If you're reasoning about what kinds of arrangements to put on the head table, think about what pictures will be taken there. If your arrangements are so involved that they will be distracting in a photo, then you may want to rethink your plans. Again, a florist can help you out with this kind of logistic problem, especially if they're local. Many will already have caress in any reception hall, so they know what they need to do.

And for your guest, though large floral arrangements can look great in the reception hall, you have to think that they will be sitting down at one point. Having larger floral arrangements blocking their view of the other side of the table or of the dance floor or head table is not a very good setup.

Think about where your guests will be sitting and what they will be able to see. They may have brought cameras to take pictures themselves, so you don't want to hinder their view.

Ideas you can use

When it comes to creating drama and yet realistic floral arrangements, you will want to think about the height above all (no pun intended). A newer trend in floral arrangements is to have tall, think vases with a few stems of flowers in each, creating a larger bouquet at the top of the vase. This looks like a organery from the farranging perspective, while giving your guests the potential to talk to each other.

On the other hand, you may also pick floral arrangements that are lower to the table. Some couples like to pick a blend of floating flowers and candles to add a small warmth to a table. And they also serve as conversation pieces as well.

Floral arrangements don't have to come from bridal magazines or shows in order to be useful at your wedding. Look colse to and see what kinds of arrangements can be done. Talk to florists about what you need and see what they suggest.

Longwood Gardens - Hybrid Tea Rose: Great Mileage and Roughage Too?

Longwood Gardens - Hybrid Tea Rose: Great Mileage and Roughage Too? Video Clips. Duration : 1.40 Mins.

This gorgeous yellow rose is typical of the higly-refined floral specimens cultivated by the expert hands of the horticultural devotees who are Longwood Gardens' employees and volunteers. Like a fuel-skimping Smart Car, you don't have to pamper the 'petal' to get great mileage out of a Hybrid Tea Rose such as this. Although on this fine June day plenty of the plants in the Rose Garden appeared naked (ie, with no blossoms, perhaps previously consumed for their soft roughage by greedy visitors) we were heartened to locate this lonely but proud sample of God's cheer. Ostensibly this hearty bloom had outlived its velvety neighbors, surviving the rapacious appetite of many an undernourished vegetarian by defending herself with her lasting beauty. Also appearing from time-to-time at Longwood Gardens are noticeably less-refined creations, such as the carnivore hiding behind all this cheesy imagery and narration. (For more cheesy imagery and narration check out the prequel, "Longwood Gardens - Woman at Well Wets Whistle". And be sure to catch our sequel, "Longwood Gardens - Topiary Topography is Tops!".)

Dramatic Tall Wedding Centerpieces

If you legitimately want to make a splash at your wedding reception, you are going to need dramatic and eye-catching centerpieces for the tables. The demure exiguous vase of white roses is simply not going to do the trick! No matter what style your wedding is going to be, there is a tall and dramatic centerpiece that will be perfect.

Height in a centerpiece can come from a range of factors, either individually, or in compound with one another. The first one is to use tall vases. The floral arrangements need not be particularly tall if the vases have a grand height. Another option is to use medium height vessels, but to set them on boxes or risers to give them a lift. Using tall natural elements like twigs or flowering branches is Another fantastic way to generate drama. A final option is less common, which is to have long centerpieces that suspend down from the ceiling, rather than trying to build up from the table top.

The Topiary

Your centerpieces should suit the general style of your wedding. For instance, if you are having a formal wedding and wearing a fancy silk gown with tons of sparkling crystal bridal jewelry, then the tall vases might be ideal for your reception. either plan to rent aged seeing silver vases from a specialty shop, or for a more modern effect, use towering clear glass vessels. A trumpet shape is lovely for a more formal or former wedding, whereas a very tall quadrilateral vase would look cool for a hip loft wedding.

Renting or buying specialty vessels can get very costly very quickly, which is why some couples prefer to use risers to elevate more thorough vessels. You should still be distinct to settle on vases with a vertical thrust for the most drama, rather than low round ones. The great thing about putting your centerpieces on risers is that you can use a range of two or three distinct heights together on one table, and place a small arrangement on each. This allows you to get legitimately creative, both in terms of the risers and the centerpieces themselves.

For an earthy wedding, place three small bamboo or wooden boxes in the center of each table. Each vessel can be filled with a distinct natural element, such as one with a floating candle, Another with a submerged flower, and a third filled with plane river rocks. There are endless adaptations to this concept. If you are going for a nightclub ensue at your reception, the risers can be mirrored boxes, and you can fill each vase with a distinct type of orchid or candle. Add to the drama by filling the bottom of your vases with a distinct color of glittering Swarovski crystal beads, which will dance and twinkle like fantastic bridal jewelry in the light bouncing between the mirrored boxes and the candles.

Another terrific way to generate height and drama at your reception is to develop your centerpieces colse to tall branches, topiaries, or even potted exiguous trees. These elements can be utilized to generate one-of-a-kind displays for any theme or style of wedding, from modern to elegant to Asian inspired to eco-friendly. If you prefer to decorate from the top down, think about substituting long strings of flowers or even origami cranes in clusters over the center of each table at the reception. The ensue will be legitimately fantastic and truly original, which after all, is exactly what every bride wants for her wedding.
